1964 Goldentone 60 watt Reverbmaster (with Tremolo)
This is not really a projects as such. I had this amp in my shop for a while before eventually selling it on EBay. The owner took these great photos which I just thought I would share with you.
This is a beautiful example of a classic Australian Amplifier. As you see from the pictures this unit is in pretty well perfect condition.

This amp is a 60 watt Reverbmaster. There were two versions of this amp. A 40 watt and the 60 watt, one of the main differences between the two being the ratings of the power and output transformers. The amp used 12AX7 twin triodes for the preamp and phase splitter stages and two 6DQ6A output tubes. These were a low cost and easy to get tube commonly used in TV receivers of the day. These tubes had the anode connection at the top of the tube (instead of on the tube socket like other output tubes) and so the output transformer had the primary windings coming from the top of the transformer to suit.
The minor disadvantage of this type of anode connection, is that the supply voltage of around 360 volts appears on the terminals so if you were, for some reason, to touch them you could receive a possibly lethal shock! Fortunately, Goldentone thought of this and put a warning sticker on the back panel that will protect you from any possible injury. |

The amp had the reverb tank mounted in the speaker cab with a multi pin plug and socket and cable connecting the speaker cab to the head, this cable carries the speaker wiring as well as the reverb send and return signals. The plug on this amp has been upgraded to an XLR type. Its also had an IEC mains socket fitted and a jack plug fitted to the footswitch. |

The amp would have originally had these cables permanently connected making it less than convenient to transport. In my opinion these are all good mods. The cab is fitted with the two original Rola/Plessey 12PQ speakers. Its pretty amazing these speakers are still in the cab as they usually get blown. I have reconditioned quite a few of these amps over the last couple of years with great results. They still stand up as a great and very retro sounding amp! |

Due to lack of space in the head the reverb tank is mounted inside the speaker cab. Connection to the reverb tank and speaker is made via a multi pin connector. The original connector on this amp has been updated with a Canon 8 pin XLR connector. |
